Program 2024
Block 1: "Rooted in Connection"
🕙 Start: 01:30 PM
Exploring the power of relationships with ourselves, each other, and the natural world, these talks invite us to rethink the foundational connections that sustain us. Through the voices of Jacob van der Borne, Raven van Horrik, and Marte Mei, we journey through themes of self-empowerment, resilience, and sustainable harmony with the world around us.
Jacob van den Borne
Jacob van den Borne is a Dutch arable farmer and leader in sustainable precision farming, using drones, satellite data, and soil analysis to boost crop yields while minimizing environmental impact. Through his website, VanDenBorneAardappelen.com, and as co-founder of the Practice Centre for Precision Agriculture, Jacob helps farmers adopt data-driven practices for sustainability. His goal is to shape the future of farming, emphasizing the vital role farmers play in sustaining rural areas and highlighting agriculture’s potential even in urban settings.
Raven van Horrik
Raven believes people should first look within themselves to truly understand the power they hold. Because everyone has the power to change any situation they experience and shape it to their advantage.
Marte Mei van Haaster
Marte Mei is an innovative thinker and designer who challenges traditional human-nature dynamics in her TEDx talk. She invites the audience to reimagine humanity’s role as an ally of nature, rather than a force of destruction. Through her design approach, Marte explores how positive interaction and collaboration with animals, plants, fungi, and bacteria can lead to a more regenerative future. She delves into the historical roots of nature maintenance strategies and argues that they have disconnected us from the natural world. Marte concludes by envisioning a new relationship with nature—one where humans become active participants and co-creators in the ecosystems around them.

Drawing on the wisdom of Albert Einstein’s words, she critiques the limitations of modern political leadership and presents a new path forward. Marleen advocates for a shift from “macht” (power) to “kracht” (strength), emphasizing how this change can foster more compassionate and effective leaders. She also brings a unique voice to the #MeToo debate, highlighting how this new approach to power can create deeper transformation in today’s world.
